Tuesday 24th October 2006
Well today was a memorable day in my life as I got married to Weisi, my new Chinese partner. Anyone who is familiar with Chinese customs will already know they are very superstitious and so there were many more couples getting married on this day as it was considered to be a lucky day. Getting married in China is not at all like marrying in the UK. We firstly have to go to the Office for Foreign Marriages where it is all form filling for about two hours unlike the 5 minutes in the registry in UK. After this was completed each partner got a little red book (looks very much like the old UK passport) with photos of both in it and another document to say we were married. We then had to go to a different office with this marriage document to have it notarised. We then had to go to the British Embassy to get my wife a UK visa. We applied and this was granted the next day. We spent until the 20th November in China and then returned to the UK.
