Who We Are?
The Mouth Cancer Foundation (MCF) is a charity solely dedicated to the relief of sickness and the promotion and protection of good health among those suffering or at risk of mouth, throat and other head & neck cancers.
How Common is Mouth Cancer?
By 2030 in the UK four million people will be living with a diagnosis of cancer. In the U.K 38,000 people are living with a diagnosis of head and neck cancer.
What Causes Mouth Cancer?
Tobacco is the main risk factor of Head & Neck Cancer. Tobacco users are 6 x more likely to develop head & neck cancer, 75% of mouth and throat cancers occur in tobacco users.
Why Get Involved?
The crucial message is that in very early stages, mouth cancer can be almost invisible and easy to ignore. Drinking and smoking increases the risk of mouth cancers and young people are being warned against binge drinking and smoking. Pupils or their peers indulging in both face a 30 times greater risk than abstainers.
Our Young People….
Most tobacco users take up the habit as teenagers when tobacco smoking appears socially acceptable. Smoking remains the major preventable cause of premature death and disease and accounts for half the difference in life expectancy between the most and least deprived in society.
